I`d agree with you that this is a melancholic series. You can count on Eric Suen to provide the comic relief, because it certainly won`t come from any of the other characters. This entire series was meant to strike sadness into the hearts of the audience. The ending theme song fits it well.

i donīt understand the ending song but it sounds like one from the opera
Beautiful and deadly, she is a true descendant of dragon. Fighting for the forces of right and justice, she leaves a series of broken bodies and broken hearts wherever she goes.

Hi, does anyone remember in what episode is that scene where Shangguan Yan is hurt (with her shirt off) and the little kid is helping her? Thanks.

OMG! I just finished watching this series! Although the plot is only so-so, I am totally in love with Sai Hau Tuo (SHT)! I don't think I've been so crazy about a character/actor in a series since Yelut Honam played by Gilbert Lam in Heroine of the Yangs! SHT is simply soooooo handsome and intelligent and oh-so-gentlemanly! What could be sexier than chivalry, calmness and coolness in the face of danger, intelligence, handsomeness, and the ability to save lives all rolled up into one awesome package?! And the fact that SHT reminds me of the famous Zhuge Liang is even better! He is the reason why I am still up this late at night (or early in the morning) gushing about him in this posting. I am so angry at Shangguan Yan (SY) for not returning his love! What's not to love???? What is wrong with her???? I can't stand Sima Cheng Feng and his bad hair! He's so boring and she loves him!!! Ugh! Ok, perhaps I may be a bit biased in SHT's favor here, I guess.

One of my favorite scenes... Toward the end, SY is injured and SHT works hard at healing her injury (like the other multiple times throughout the series). When the transfer of internal energy stops, he looks up and finds SY standing in front of him, offering him a pill to help him recover his strength. And he just gazes up at her adoringly and gives the most heartfelt, romantic speech ever. He says he loves her and does not dare to wish for more than friendship because he knows she loves the curly haired guy. He only hopes that she will forever remember him, allow him to be by her side to protect her. And he wishes to have the fortune to meet her again in the next life. And she answers that she would want to meet him again in the next life. Awwww! Why couldn't SY wake up and see how much SHT loves her and return his love at that moment?

Ok, I'm sure I'm talking to myself in this thread, since I am 4 years late in watching the series. Oh, well. I've professed my love and adoration to SHT, so now I can go to sleep happy. I hope someone responds, though, as I would really like to discuss more of this series and my new love for SHT.

Melanie, you're so behind man! Qiao Zhen Yu was great in the SHT role, I also like the other guy, Nong Yue, for being half-evil and half-good. I seem to recall Nong Yue also having feelings for SGY. Mel, it's ShangGuan Yan.

I don't like the Curly Sima guy either. He's so boring. AT least at the end, it seems like SHT and SGY are together like

    click to show/hide spoilers
He and she "supposely died" (we're not sure) so that they can reborn into a new life and meet each other and get married. It's like "Let's leave that Sima guy behind, he's a loser." Hahahaaha!
I just love how you Captivate My Mind

    Suet Seung:
Yes, I am so behind. My cousin just gave me some of his old series recently and I started to watch this one because the cover of the dvd book looked pretty interesting. Then, once I started watching, I was hooked on the SHT character.

Throughout the whole series, I couldn't figure out why SGY didn't at least develop some romantic feelings for SHT. How could any girl remain untouched by such devotion and love? And SHT is such a good catch, as he is handsome, intelligent, and very protective and faithful to her. Sure, he is initially handicapped, but that changes in the end. Therefore, how could she not love him???

I think some members in this thread mention that SGY looks older than SHT. I agree, but I think the actress who plays SGY is pretty youthful. I put the blame on her hair and costume artist for making her look so blah. Also, her character is so serious all the time and she hardly smiles. Just that personality of hers puts years on her face. I bet if she opens her heart to SHT, she would have more reason to smile. We would all look old, too, if we were stuck with someone soooo boring, like the curly haired guy.

I am a bit confused about how SHT falls in love with SGY, though. There is not much introduction to their relationship to each other in the beginning. Lady Zhuge's explanation that they likely know each other from childhood because their teachers are good friends makes sense. However, it just seems rather abrupt when she barges in on SHT, without much introduction, and just asks him to heal Sima Cheng Feng. And after SHT makes his indecent proposal and SGY storms off after calling him a bunch of undesirable names, SHT mentions that SGY is finally willing to accept his proposal. That comment suggests that he has made such a proposal to her before in the past, only to be rejected.

And yes! Suet Sueng, I like your assumption about how they end up together at the conclusion of the series. That's a nice take on the ending. By the way, given that the ending is very open, is there a sequel? If there is a sequel, I don't want SHT to find some other girl to fall in love with. Part of his charm and attraction, at least for me, is his devotion to one and only girl throughout the entire series. His love for SGY never falters, and he keeps his word to the very end to try to keep her safe, to try his best to make her happy. Therefore, if there is a sequel, I would rather that SGY have a change of heart and start developing romantic feelings for SHT. Perhaps, when I have some extra time, I will write a short fanfic on my version of the sequel. Or maybe you should do it, Suet Seung. It's a pity that nobody has explored the possible relationship between SHT and SGY in a fanfic (unless there is one and I just don't know about it).

I like Nong Yue, too. He is pretty interesting - someone who straddles the fine line between good and evil, and yet, comes off as genuine to the people he loves. I don't understand why the producers give him such a hairstyle, though. It makes him look sissy, even though the actor is pretty handsome. (Yes, I really prefer men in costume series to have the traditional hairstyle like SHT's.) Nong Yue has feelings for SGY? I think I missed that part. Which part is that?

I absolutely love QZY as Ouyeung Ming Ri. I started liking QZY after watching this drama. I am not very interested in Shangguang Yin & Sima Cheung Fung.

Ming Ri is so cute. I just love his looks in this drama. I just feel so sorry for him for how is dad treat him. It is not his fault that he is born a cripple but nevertheless he is still so charming even though he doesnt smile much but he looks so shuai just sitting there.

I find his pictures on Baidu just want to share

Enjoy for those looking for his pictures

So judging from my amazing perceptive powers and the proponderence of typecasting in Chinese television series, I will make some predictions about the characters in this series I have not actually seen or know much about.

    1. Beautiful and deadly, she is a true descendant of dragon. Fighting for the forces of right and justice, she leaves a series of broken bodies (villans of course) and broken hearts wherever she goes. May have some sort of trama in her past. Will find a man who she originally does not get along with, but through working (unwillingly of course) together and constant contact, will grow to respect and love. May fight against the corrupt authorities or some kind of supernatural force.

    2. Aforementioned male escort to the female protagonist. Rugged and handsome, he is the perpetual outsider who comes in to save the village with his amazing martial arts skills. Has a big sword and is not afraid to use it for the forces of good. May have some sort of trauma in his past. Straight talking and modest, will this mysterious stranger be the one to melt the "Female dragon's" heart?

    3. I would have originally pegged this guy as the emperor, but Lady ZhuGe informed me that he is in fact a magic doctor. So he is a medical prodigy who can save people from the brink of death. Definitely has some sort of trauma in his past. Trying to balance his youth with his calling to save mankind. The protagonists' sidekick in making the world safe for good.

    4. The comic relief. A bumbling lower level lackey in the corrupt government. Somehow finds himself working with the epic heros and heroines. May be in love with the main protagonist. Cheerful and resourceful, he always manages to get himself into and out of most scrapes. May die at the end so that the main protagnoist can be with her intended.

    5. The villian. Cultured and effeminate, might be evil to cover up his latent homosexuality. High up on the hierarchy, he nevertheless wants to seize more power for himself. Cunning and devious, he prefers to send henchman to do his work (one of whom I might or might not fall in love with...) However, seeing that this is a wuxia series, he will probably need to fight with the protagonist at some point and thus will have very good martial arts skills as well.
    You are amazing.
