    in this series the crowned prince is a great righteous man whose only weak spot is that he is too soft, emotional and very giving. good qualities for a man but not for an emperor. then he met Ru I, and he fell in love with her. Kang Xi, his father, and everyone else did not approve of this since Ru I is the a princess of the previous Ming dynasty, but he still fought for his love, defying everyone. I think he eventually got crazy with love, not so sure since i haven't finish it yet.
    on the other habd, Yong Zheng is portrayed to be the evil one here, he would pretend to be the good son and brother, helping the prince in every way he can, but he really want the throne for himself.
    Whereas the prince gave up the throne for his loveed one, Yong Zhen gave up on his love to have the throne. yikes!
    I don't know why but I just don't like people who love and don't do anything else. I mean Duo Er Guan was pretty crazy with love, but at least he won some battles and served as some serious competitor for the throne.

    But the crown prince is just pretty useless, especially with his title but he doesn't do anything for his country. (I'm pretty biased since Yong Zheng is my fav Qing emperor)

    I agree with you that he is a good man, but not a good emperor. And I also appreciate that he can walk away from the throne for his love (even Prince Charles can't do that ) , but I wouldn't want him for a husband.

    I was just wondering, what role does Yan Kun play in this series? I think he plays NJ's son.. Fu Ling (I can't spell his name.. sorry.. lol I'm not Chinese) Anyways.. I was wondering if overall, is this series good? Because I don't know if I should go rent it. I've heard opinion, both and good... but overall, is it good?

    Yan Kun plays Fu Lin, Ning Jing's character's son. He appears in the latter part of the show. Overall, I thought this series was pretty good, but sometimes too overly dramatized.

    i'm watching this and yan kun dint appear yet but yan kun is the onli reason i'm watching this serie... its pretty boring so i just watch one vcd a dai... maybe i'll hurry it up wen yan kun appears...

    you think this series is boring?

    then what kind of series do you find interesting?

    cos i found this series really interesting, even if it did have some boring bits but altogether it was one heck of a show. Ning Jing received best actress of the year for this show.

    lol... yea i think its boring... the names get me confused but i get the idea... i'm sure it will get more interesting once yan kun appears i haf been holding off on this serie for about a month... i was busy watching aegean sea and some other series... i still got a lot at hand but yea...
    many of my frnd's parents say that they luv this serie and that it is extremely interesting but i find it boring... most likely cause i dun speak mandrin but can understand most... so yea... maybe i'll find more intrest in it if it was in cantonese? lol

    that's like me watching in chinese, i don't understand a word but got the main idea, this film is definitely something you must listen to to find interesting. and if your waiting for Yan Kun to appear he appears in the later half of the series.

    most people found his section really boring, so did i.

    i thought yan kun did a good job as 'a son' but i felt his relationship side was very bad. maybe it was just the scripts fault.
