How do you feel about Abbot Xuanci in DGSD?

To be complete honest, I do find a decent fellow and a 'good guy'.

To be complete honest, I do find a decent fellow and a 'good guy'.

I think he's a fundamentally decent man, but he made some horrible mistakes along the way. Probably his most egregious error was trying to cover it up. The consequences of his cover ups were even worse than the original crimes. It was kind of like Watergate. Maybe this was Shaolingate.

You’re right on all those accounts. However, the cover up was done by friends of Xuanci as they owe him a debt and respect him. In edition 3, he made three attempts to allow Xiao Feng to take his life as to atone for his mistakes. I, personally, think that at least two of his crimes were Murong Bo’s fault.

The assassination attempt on the Sius to instigate a war between Northern Sung and Liao was certainly a setup by Mo Yung Bok.

I would say he is a good man who made terrible mistakes (the Ye Men Guan incident and having an affair with Yue Er Niang) in his youth. He didn't had the guts to face up to those mistakes and decided to let the secrets remain secrets.

It's pretty normal and understandable if you were to ask me.

He must have done plenty of good deeds outside of these two incidents, otherwise he won't have been held in such high esteem.

He is decent but at the point after Apricot Forest and Juxian Manor, where he could see bloodbath happening, he could have taken more active steps to resolve the issue instead of dueling Xiao Feng incognito and hoping to die. In fact, if he was wrong about XF and died to that palm strike, it would just mess up the issue even more.

Also, for Ye ErNiang, he definitely knows she became #2 evil and it doesnt take a genius to know its connected to their affair. He should also have taken more active steps to go find her and try to help her instead of letting her potentially get killed by some righteous sect person or do further wrongs.

Good guy, but he shouldnt be sitting on things.
