Personally, I don't like the ending because after all they've been through they absolutely deserve a happy life together...but I also figure out that this is probably the best way to end the series.

wallace and sun li are the "star-crossed lovers" in the series and no matter how hard they try to fight for their love, still it isn't allowed or maybe it is just that they unceasingly miss eachother's chance to live happily together because something for how many times goes wrong.

The emerald's legend is just a way to give hope for the viewers that they would meet and finally be happy somewhere in time but the reality is despite they love eachother, they are not bound to be together.

I think this what sets this series apart from its same genre love story. It is so typical for a romance drama to be dramatic. The lovers would undergo impossible obstacles and in the end one has to die. It is either they end up happily or end up dying together. Another plot is the impossible childhood lovers, such as young kids making vows of love? LOL They're too young to remember they've been "in love" before. This series has a great division of obstacles. First, when they were young they miss to tell eachother- i like you. When they meet again in Britain after some time, they are separated by accident. But it is actually sun li's mother's fault due to her excessive gambling they have to run away. When they meet again in their hometown, they are faced with people close to them opposing.. until in the final hour, still something happens which makes them decide to break up for good.

Their love spanned many years and still counting...I guess the process is all believable and the tragedies happening around them are consistent.

I really like the way how the first episode relates to the last one..
In the beginning, wallace does not know the heaven. While he is saying it the camera focuses on sun li who at that time does not know him yet. It is him narrating from the last episode.. He is retelling the story and that's why in the end it closes focusing on the skies which is the heaven.

And also in the last part because sun li leaves without having any regrets, wallace recollects their memories together happily...


The only thing I didn't like about this series is repetition - of songs and flashbacks. The songs are all good but they get irritating when played nonstop. Music (w/o lyrics) best accompanies heavy and sentimental scenes while songs are only for important key scenes which they would fit onto.

finished the series! it was sooo good... up until the last episode..
what was the point of the whole emerald story if they didn't end up together?!

Jiaqi and Nianzhong were totally meant for each other
It was hard to hate Peiyu, but some of the things she did were just so secretive. she was, in a way, like a passive b****. Peiyu may have sacrificed a lot for him, but Jiaqi sacrificed just as much.
and i liked Niekai. felt bad for him.. but i thought since him and Peiyu have so much in common (their unrequited love), they would hook up.
that would have been the perfect ending for me

and that Shijie can just go die in hell.

kiropuppy: how can you possibly say that Pei Yu did something "secretive", besides the fact that she agreed to buy Jia Qi's mom tickets to fly back. OK, if I were her I'd do the exact same thing. If anyone is a human, and not a saint, they would have done the same thing she did. She's not perfect. She already sacrificed enough. If someone were to ask you to save them, and at the same time gain someone you like, would you be like: "No, I'm too saintly for that, I won't do anything to separate the two lovers?" I really don't believe a character that saintly would be an interesting character to watch.

In this series I don't like any character ... except for Pei Yu. What would Nianzhong be without Pei Yu? A poor, penniless nobody. What would Jia Qi be like without Pei Yu? Probably raped by that guy at the coffee shop. At the end if it weren't because of Jia Qi, Pei Yu wouldn't be terribly burned like she was.

OK tell me what Jia Qi do to "sacrifice" for Nianzhong and I can tell you Pei Yu did way more ... Pei Yu, a rich girl, has everything, but the fact that she treats people with respect, even the poor one, makes me love her even more.

Just because Jiaqi has the emerald means that she deserves the guy? He only loves her because she was his first love and he's a faithful person. what you said about Pei Yu is totally true. somehow, though, i would think that if Jia Qi's mother hadn't said that she would take her away and disappear forever so that she could have Nian Zhong to herself, she wouldn't have helped her.

I guess the person to blame most is Jia Qi's mother. Everything would have gone well if it weren't for her mother interfering with everything she did.

OMG how come this thread is like...dead?

I just finished! I cried so much! Blaarghh! Why couldn't Nian Zhong just marry Jia Qi but look after Pei Yu at the same time. I mean, Jia Qi would undertand and it's not like he's two timing or anything.
But I guess the ending sort of fits well...

Wallace was so cute at the start, and then towards the end when he stopped wearing glasses, OMG he was soo hot! I love Wallace! He looks so good in the black shirt and the green!

OMG i loved this series so much...i dont watch too many modern ones...watched this for wallace..and was not disappointed...except..a little annoyed with the flashback overuse..

For me, I like the ending... I don't know why...I'm not a sad person..but I love watching these kind of endings, with sort of a bitter-sweet feeling, and it also depends on how people will view it.. plus it is done nicely with a good bg tear-triggering song, this way it's more profound.

I agree, ilove watching shows with sad endings, though i still cry at the end but i still love it!!

he chose Pei Yu.
why he didn't marry sun li? because pei yu is badly injured, whether it is or not his fault, she has been always nice to him... and she's also willing to let go, it's just that things didn't work out so well. She sacrificed alot , now it's his turn to bring back the favor.

Yes for her mother.. , and to let go of Wallace...(it is her own decision)


I'm a fan of this series, I don't think that the ending is bad.. you just have to be a little wide minded and analyze the whole story not just a specific episode or scene. Coz you will surely get something that has sense from it I love Wallace and Sun li.. their acting was very good.

This is one of my favorite lines.. in the series
sun li: Nian Zhong I love you.. I really do love you with my whole my heart.. Thank you for such nice memories you gave me, I will bravely go now...blah blah blah.... I like it because I never hear her say i love you.. as in directly and it was sweet, and heartbreaking. While saying these lines, she's like hoping to see Nian Zhong for one last time at the airport.. and the song starts to play...

Those were also my fav lines, everytime i hear it i cant help but feel so sad inside. it is always the 2 last scenes that makes me cry.
